Sephora Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Review - Purple Glitter

Ever felt like stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something crazy?! Ok this is not that crazy... but given my usual natural/classic makeup style, purple glitter eyeliner is totally out of my comfort zone. What triggered it...a sale of course! This was $7 on Sephora... Read on to see swatches (including eye swatches) and my full review on this product!

This is a liquid eyeliner, with the usual wet/liquidy formula. It comes with this spongy-soft tip, which I wish was a bit more stiff, but it does nicely to make a clean line and wing with a bit of maneuvering.

I don't know if these swatch photos do this product justice, but this is a gorgeous liner! It is specked with multi-dimensional purple glitter in a deep purple/almost navy base.

I did a clean swatch on my eyes (meaning no eyeshadows/primer, just mascara) so you can see the effect and color of the liner without other products on board.

I also purposely didn't re-dip the liner tip for the eye swatch, so you can see how much product/pigmentation you can get in one-go (it sucks to keep re-dipping liner, slows one down in the morning!)

As you can see, not bad for no re-dipping! Ideally, to make this completely opaque I would re-dip as you can see on the wing tip there is not much glitter anymore.  It's not terrible as it's nice to have more shimmer on the front bulgy part of the eye anyways, but hey, the point of this is to go glitter all the way!

I actually loved this so much I wore it to a family dinner after doing these swatches. Ideally, I think this liner would look great with a purple smokey eye, and perhaps with a thin black liner close to the lashline to add dimension. At the end of the night there was some minor flaking under my eyes, but nothing too terrible.

As you probably already can tell, I loved this little experiment into the wonderful world of glittery liners. However my happiness ended when I tried to take this off. This was actually quite unpleasant to remove. It certainly broke down with my Lancome Bi-Facil eye makeup remover. However those bits and blobs it broke down into got all over my eye area and was difficult to get onto the remover-soaked cotton pad without a few more swipes that made my area sensitive. Eventually I used an oil-based all-over-face remover and it washed off easily after that. In retrospect, I should have just used a Q-tip dipped in remover to get the liner off first, and then do the rest of the eye makeup with the cotton pad (my usual method).

Overall, happy with this $7 purchase. Despite the glitter, this liner is actually dark enough that it doesn't really stand out as in-you-face-PURPLE GLITTER unless one is closer to my face. I think this would be great for those nights out with friends. I probably wouldn't use it for work/office though, but that's just me :)

Have you bought a product that's out of your comfort zone recently? How did it go? Share with me in the comments!

  1. The deep purple color looks great against your dark brown eyes. I'm just like you. I like exploring budget options first if I'm shopping for something experimental or bolder than my usual colors.:)

    1. Thanks Lena! Definitely better to experiment on budget than regret an expensive purchase... Especially as some of my experiments may not get repeated :P

  2. I'm really loving this eyeliner on you! It sucks that there's a tough removal, but it sounds like you figured out something for it. :)
