On Mixing Lippies - Bite + Stila

I'm not usually one to mix lippies...maybe it's because it's an "extra step", or simply because I'm not very adventurous. The most I'd ever done previously was to put on clear or very light pink lip gloss on top of lipstick.  Recently, something got into me to layer this shimmery-apricot-y shade from Stila ("Starfruit") over the Bite VIB Rouge lipstick, and it was instant love!

Bite lipstick on the left, Stila lip glaze in Starfruit on the right, and layered in the middle.

This combo tones down the red just enough that I feel comfortable wearing it daily (I usually feel self-conscious wearing very bold red lipsticks).

What lippie combo are you loving recently?

  1. I almost never mix lip colors (LAZY), but this color is so pretty on you! I used to be mad about stila lip glaze, which I think has pretty nice consistency. :)

    1. Thanks Lena! It has a brightening effect on my face and I feel like smiling when I have it on :) I used to not like the lip glazes as they felt too sticky, but now I appreciate how long they last!

    1. Haha I never did before either, give it a try one day and perhaps you'll discover something! This one was a random find :)

  3. that's a good way to tone down reds. I am still too intimidated to wear bright red and will have to try this. I have the Stila lip gloss as well and find it a bit too sticky to use alone. Lately, I am trying the ombre lip and like to apply a pale pink lipstick first and then apply a brighter lip stain in the middle part of my lips.

    1. That sounds like a great combination! I find the Stila sticky too, but got used to it and don't mind it now. I was happy it let me use my red lippies more!

  4. i dont ever mix things b/c i haven't really found a good combo and i'd rather just the one item give me the exact color i want. but sometimes that's not possible so maybe i'll considering mixing but i can't remember the last time i've done that.

    1. True it's easier to just pull out one tube and know what will happen :) I'm not good to predicting what two colors would go well together, this one was a true random find.

  5. Very nice! I usually mix super pale nude with bright pink or red. I also love doing gradient lips with the same combination. Layering is fun and I do it all the time. :D
