Tarte Amazonia clay 12 hour blush - amused

This is an unusual shade of blush for me to buy, but it was on sale at Sephora (so hard to resist!) and I keep hearing from others how lovely this blush line is, so into my cart it went. I've been trying this blush out for the past month, and at this point I'm not sure if I like it...Click to read more and see why:

Aside from the advertised "clay" goodness, the ingredients are not terribly different from other powder blushes.

Tarte does do a very nice design on the press, makes me not want to wipe this away with use, however I quickly realized this is not going away anytime soon.

This stuff is pigmented...I didn't think the print was going away soon because I need soooo little of this to do my face in my usual "there but not there" blush style. In fact I need to use a very sparse powder brush to put this on, as my dense blush brushes put on too much way too easily. Even though it's such a pale baby pink, due to the insane pigmentation it really shows up on the skin easily, and too much of this doesn't go well with my skintone. Also if I deposit too much product to start, it is not easy to blend out.

When used with a very (very) light hand and a sparse brush though, this blush is oddly very natural looking on me. I really like that... but I don't like that it's so finicky!

So yes, that's why I'm undecided about this one. Love the effect, but not what it takes to get there. It does last whole day so I suppose the "12 hour" claim is true, though with slight fading.

What are your thoughts on this line of blushes? Are there techniques you find useful with this level of pigmentation to help with blending?

  1. Oh I haven't used these blushes for a while now but I do remember them being super pigmented and that you only need a super light hand to apply! I think the color looks really gorgeous on your complexion, though! Totally worth the extra effort!

    1. Haha I'm pretty low effort most days, it is such a brightening and pretty shade, will keep going at it!

  2. I only have 2 of this - Exposed and Frisky. I thought they were nice... and you're right that they're so pigmented it's difficult to blend. Also, I find the texture of Frisky stiffer than Exposed, so I'm not sure if it's the inconsistency of the formula. What I do is to use a very fluffy cheek brush, take some product as I normally would, and take off almost everything at the back of my hand before applying on my cheeks. That, I find, is the safest bet - no clown cheeks :-)

    1. Good idea to put on the back of the band first, I'll try that! Haha yea I got clown cheeks the first time I used this, it looked so "light" that I really loaded my brush lol.

  3. I have a few and Exposed is my favorite as it is the most natural looking and easiest to blend. Agree with you that this blush is super pigmented and quite hard to work with depending on the shades. I use Sigma blush brush as it is not the dense and it won't pick up too much product.

    1. Oh you're the second person to mention Exposed, I should go have a look at it next time I'm in a store!

  4. Hmmm yeah, make-up should pretty much apply itself, lol... I'm also not sure about this particular color. A bit too cool and Barbie-ish, I think.

    1. Haha yea I like things that are easily bendable! The color actually doesn't translate "Barbie" when it's sheered out on the cheeks, probably the warmth from skin makes it look more natural.
